The Three Things You Need to Do Before You Buy a Home:
1) Find an agent. Since seller's pay the fee, agents work for buyers free of charge. It's just plain silly, therefore, to embark upon something as complicated as house-hunting without an agent at your side. Worried that a real estate agent will be too pushy? Then simply meet a few different agents and pick the one who has the personality you find most appealing.
2) Get Pre-Qualifified. I am always amazed at how many buyers ask me to show them properties and yet they haven't taken the time to find out if they can even afford the home. If I show you homes that are either above or below your price range, I am not being a very good agent, and that is why I require my buyers to speak to a reputable lender before we start the home search. If you need the name of a great lender, just ask!
3) Set up a Hot-List. This is where you either fill out a form, email the information, or spend five minutes on the telephone explaining what you are looking for in a home. Items like price, number of bedrooms, location, special requirements, etc. Then, the moment that any home meeting that description hits the MLS, you will automatically be emailed the information, along with a photo of the home.
There is information about buying and selling homes all over the place, so locating information isn't very difficult. And, there are a zillion real estate agents out there who are just dying to find you a home or sell yours for you. So, when you're in the market of buying or selling property, you have to ask yourself, "What am I really looking for in an agent?" After you've asked yourself that question, take a look at my bio and see what you think.
